FC Dallas signed two of their draft picks from MLS SuperDraft as goalkeeper Ryan Herman and midfielder Timo Pitter to contracts today. Both players were the team’s top two picks as Herman was selected in round one while Pitter was selected in round two.
Herman getting signed was likely not only because he was a first round pick, but he filled the need of a third goalkeeper after Dan Kennedy was traded. Herman might see time later in the year, but is expected to learn all year and get ready to possibly make appearances in 2017.
In round two of MLS SuperDraft, getting a player that ends up on the team after the preseason is not likely, but FC Dallas might have found a steal in Timo Pitter. In the preseason, Pitter netted six goals across four games and could be a factor later in the year for the team, but will probably be loaned to Oklahoma City where he could make an impact for that team early on. FC Dallas manager Oscar Pareja has been high on Pitter all preseason.
“He has been embracing the ideas and the demands of the first team,” he said. “I have been surprised with how fast he has been picking up things we have taught him so far.”
