FC Dallas extended Kellyn Acosta’s contract and picked up the options on Matt Hedges, Atiba Harris, Zach Loyd, Je-Vaughn Watson, Rolando Escobar, and Victor Ulloa today. All players played meaningful minutes for the club in 2015 with Hedges, Loyd, Watson, and Ulloa being regular starters. FC Dallas declined options on Otis Earle, Danny Garcia, Michel, and David Texeira. Blas Perez and Stephen Keel were both out of contract.
What does this mean?
Well for the exception of Texeira, the rest of the guys were not starters or regulars off the bench. Michel and Blas Perez both saw time in the final game, but were both not the first option off the bench at their respective position. Otis Earle and Danny Garcia were both loaned out to Arizona in hopes of improving, but neither were able to get great progress down there. Stephen Keel was hurt all of 2015 and you really hope he finds work elsewhere or at least has a role with the team in an ambassador position for 2016. The big thing is FC Dallas cleared up nearly 1.25 million in cap over the last few days. It appears FC Dallas will be buyers come January and will look to bring in a number 9 which was the team’s biggest weakness in 2015. It appears with the roster moves that Dallas will bring in somebody from oversees. The question is will it be a big name player from Europe or somebody from South America where FC Dallas has had success over the past few years with the addition of Fabian Castillo and Micheal Barrios.
We will feature very soon where FC Dallas should spend the money and how to make the 2016 lineup a team that could make MLS Cup in 2016.
