2015 was our first year to use the services of a professional photographer for FC Dallas home games. Now that the regular season is complete, we’d like to look back at the best photographs…to reminisce about the key moments, to laugh at awkward poses and expressions captured at 1/500 of a second, and marvel at the beauty of the sport and the sheer athleticism of the players. All photos taken by David Chaffin for Soccer Information Network.
#10 We start with a nice wide shot under a golden sky to set the scene. Twilight is always a wonderful time to take pictures, isn’t it?
#9 Matt Hedges appears to want nothing to do with a flying Nick Romando as the FC Dallas centerback joins the attack on a set piece.
#8 It’s clear Kellyn Acosta was beyond excited about scoring a goal against Portland as he ran straight toward the Beer Garden while I was right between them clicking away. Here’s the follow-up shot of Kellyn celebrating with the fans:
#7 When players score a goal, some appear surprised (see #8), some are emphatic, but Castillo is always abundantly joyful. And he never fails to go hug the player who assisted his goal, as in this photo with Diaz from the July 4 game against NE Revs.
#6 When Mauro Diaz has the ball, sometimes all defenders can do is throw up their hands in resignation.
#5 I love how this photos captures the excitement of the fans and Tesho’s acknowledgment of their adulation after he scored the winner late in the LA game on May 9.
#4 See Brad? Brad is sad. You can clearly see the lopsided FC Dallas victory written all over his face.
#3 Je-Vaughn Watson, ladies and gentlemen. (Sorry, JV, this is just too funny.)
#2 Another photo from the Houston game. Don’t you love seeing opposing goalkeepers looking back toward their goal in horror? Here’s what they were looking at, for the record:
#1 There’s no better feeling for a sports photographer than being in the right place at the right time to capture a key moment in razor sharp focus. Such was the case as homegrown hero Victor Ulloa scores the winner against San Jose in the final game of the regular season. And if the Red Bulls hadn’t been awarded a (questionable) PK in the simultaneous match, this would’ve been the goal that won FC Dallas its first Supporters’ Shield. So close! And because goal celebrations never get old, here are a few additional photos of Ulloa and teammates celebrating his goal.
