Scoreboard watching MLS: October 3, 2015

With October here, it is officially time to start scoreboard watching the rest of the league. We will look at each game, predict a winner, and rate how important the game is to FC Dallas on a scale on a scale of 1-10. Due to time constraints, we were not able to get last night’s D.C.-NYCFC game in time, but the importance was a zero.

Saturday:

Toronto FC versus Philadelphia.

4 PM

Toronto needs a win to stay alive for a chance to host the first round game. Philadelphia just played 120 minutes in a  U.S. Open defeat to Sporting Kansas City. Toronto will officially eliminate Philadelphia today.

Importance level-1

New York Red Bulls versus Columbus

6 PM

New York is in the playoffs already and are in great contention for the Supporters’  Shield. Columbus needs a win to stay alive for a first round bye. Columbus is more desperate than New York and I think it ends in a tie.

Importance level-7

Orlando-Montreal

6:30 PM

Both teams are hot right now and each have a three game winning streak. Orlando is a good team at home and Montreal has not lost in a month. It might be the sleeper game of the weekend with how each has played over the last month. Montreal will get the win.

Importance level-1

Chicago versus New England

7:30 PM

Chicago has already been eliminated from the playoffs and are battling for the top draft pick in MLS SuperDraft. New England is still trying to battle for a first round bye in the East. New England should take care of business today.

Importance level-1

San Jose-Vancouver

9:30 PM

San Jose is fighting to make the playoffs as they have only five points in their last five games. Vancouver is the favorite for now to get the top seed in the Western Conference. Vancouver has shown to be a solid road team, but could they be looking ahead to their two game set with FC Dallas? A win by Vancouver and an FC Dallas win Sunday gets them in the playoffs. A San Diego win or tie and it really puts FC Dallas in the driver seat for the top seed in the West for now if they win Sunday. I think Vancouver wins and sets FC Dallas up to clinch a  playoff spot Sunday.

Importance level-10

Portland-Sporting Kansas City

9:30 PM

Portland is very good at home versus the west and need a win to stay in the playoffs. Sporting just played a grueling game on Tuesday in Open Cup finals. A Portland win lets them breath a little easier in trying to secure a playoff spot. Kansas City really needs  a tie which will feel like a win. Don’t think Kansas City gets a tie though. Portland gets the win.

Importance level-5

Sunday:

Colorado-Real Salt Lake

6 PM

Colorado is out of the playoffs barring a miracle. If Salt Lake gets a win and a lot of help this weekend, their playoff chances can continue to be on life support. I think Salt Lake gets the win, but will they get the help they desperately need.

Importance level-2

Seattle-Los Angeles

8:30 PM

Seattle is fighting to be the three or four seed in the playoffs. Los Angeles needs to win in order to keep chances alive for the one seed in the West. A loss by Los Angeles and their chances for a  first round bye will destroy their chances for a first round bye if Vancouver and Dallas take care of business. I think Seattle takes care of business at home.
