FC Dallas suffered their first loss in the month of September as a brace for Benny Feilhaber and a Dom Dwyer rocket downed the Texas club 3-1. Victor Ulloa scored the only goal for FC Dallas, and his only goal of the season so far.
The first half was dull, but both sides were able to crack a few chances out. Michael Barrios opened the match with a chance inside the first minute, but his shot was saved at the near post. Dwyer would have a chance to open the scoring in the 38th minute, but his free header from not far out was just wide.
Jesse Gonzalez would come up huge for FC Dallas, making some big saves, but his offense could not help him out. Gonzalez’s first big save came in first half stoppage time. Chance Myers took a shot that was going into the back of the net, but Gonzalez stretched and used his fingertips to push the ball onto the post.
It was not enough to stave off Feilhaber’s free-kick however that opened the scoring. Feilhaber ripped a shot from just outside the box that went to the side netting for 1-0. Feilhaber would add another 11 minute later. Dwyer drew the penalty, and Feilhaber finished it off from the spot.
That now makes four straight starts for Gonzalez in which he has faced a penalty, he has stopped two.
Ulloa’s first goal of the season would draw FC Dallas back by one. Ulloa hit a shot from outside the box, and Sporting’s homegrown keeper Jon Kempin would get a hand to it. It was not enough to keep the ball out of the back of the net as it squeezed past Kempin and into the net for 2-1.
Dom Dwyer would finish the match three minutes later in the 83rd minute. Dwyer ripped a shot from just inside the box and found the top right corner of the net across his body. Gonzalez could do nothing to stop it.
Barrios looked to pull one more back for FC Dallas, but after the ball entered the net, a whistle went for a foul earlier in the play cancelling the goal.
FC Dallas would fall on that note. The club returns to action when they come back to Texas to face in-state rivals, the Houston Dynamo in Frisco.
