FC Dallas captain Matt Hedges knows things need to turn around quick in order for this team to have a deep playoff run. Right now, Hedges has been battling injury over the last few months as he has been having ankle problems and fighting through it.
“The leg is pretty swollen,” he said. “It hurts a lot, but I am playing through the pain of the injury.”
With FC Dallas on a three game losing streak heading into the last third of the season. Hedges knows the team needs to turn things around fast.
“We’re just not getting good results,” he said. “We’re not very dangerous on set pieces and not dangerous in attack. We’re also giving up a lot of bad goals too, but we still have time to peak at the right time.”
Set pieces have been a serious issue for the team this season as there has been a dramatic difference from last season to this season. Hedges thinks things need to calm down when setting up set piece chances.
“I think we’re just trying to be too complicated with what we’re doing,” he said. “We’re trying to different plays when we need to just hit it into the box and let our big guys go after it.”
Je-Vaughn Watson has been at center back the last two games for FC Dallas and Hedges has been impressed with how he has played so far.
“I think he has been doing well,” he said. “It’s not easy to play that position especially when you don’t do it a lot and he had a big tackle against Vancouver last week.”
Hedges knows this game against Real Salt Lake is critical if this team wants to have any chance of making the playoffs this season.
“We need to get three points at home,” he said. “We have five games left at home and we need to get three points in each of those five games.”
