In front of a solid crowd of over 7,000 Scorpion supporters, San Antonio was able to grab 3 points from the Jacksonville Armada with a 1-0 victory. This was the Scorpions first victory in their last five games, which has seen them grab only 2 points out of a possible 15.
The wining goal came from Billy Forbes’ in the 64’ after a nice sequence of passing starting with Rafael Castillo finding Tyler Gibson with some room to run. Gibson was able to find Forbes making his run down the right side right as he was getting into the 18 yard box untouched and unmarked. Forbes nailed what golfer call a worm burner into the left side of the goal.
Currently the NASL standings are kind of a log jam with only 11 points separating San Antonio from the first place Ottawa Fury who currently have 19 points. The bigger and more attainable note is that there are only 7 points separating 2nd place from where the Scorpions sit in 9th place. The only way for the Scorpions to move up in the standings is to stand their ground on defense. During their five games winless streak the Scorpions scored 11 goals but gave up 13. For the season they are tied for second with 15 goals, but have given up 18, which is tied for last. Obviously the offensive production isn’t in question it’s the need to make sure they hold their back line and give our keepers a solid chance to make stops. With 2 games in hand and 12 games left in the season the Scorpions still have a chance to make a solid run for the playoffs.
Jacksonville will only have to wait seven days for redemption as San Antonio is coming too Community First Park for a 6:30pm CST kickoff this Saturday. On a side note; the game winning goal scored by Billy Forbes is up for NASL Play of the Week so you can go vote at: NASL PLAY OF THE WEEK
