U.S. Open Cup Round 4 – FC Dallas 4, Oklahoma City Energy FC 1 – Match Recap

zach_loyd-9241FC Dallas bounced back from their recent run of form, and dominated in a 4-1 win over the USL’s Western Conference leaders, Oklahoma City Energy FC. The Round 4 U.S. Open Cup match was played on the campus of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

On a balmy night, 1,106 fans packed a sold-out Garvey-Rosenthal stadium to see Michael Barrios and Fabian Castillo have a field day. They also got the see first round draft pick, Otis Earle’s debut for FC Dallas in the 56th minute.

Michael Barrios shined, and got his first goal in a FC Dallas shirt, plus another. He looked bright from the start as his shot forced a save within the first 30 seconds after kick-off. He got his rewards before the 35th minute, and there was not much gap between them.

The first goal came off a rebound after 17 year old attacker, Alex Zendejas forced a save, Barrios picked up the rebound and easily scored. The second goal was a great piece of work by the Colombian.

He blasted down the left side and cut into the box. It was a great finish and run to make the score line 3-0. Goalkeeper Chris Seitz had the assist as he gave the ball to Barrios to begin his run. They were his first two goals in a FC Dallas shirt.

David Teixeira got the opener in the 20th minute. Fabian Castillo ran rampant, and had a mismatch against his defender who was a lot slower than him. Castillo easily ran down the bi-line and nutmegged a pass into the center and the Uruguayan was there for the easy finish. Teixeira added another early in the second half for 4-0.

 Oklahoma did not generate many chances, but they gave their traveling supporters something to cheer about in the 82nd minute. Danny Konig pulled a nice turn and shoot and placed his shot perfectly into the bottom right corner to beat Chris Seitz. Konig was hot coming in with 3 goals in 2 games of USL play, and he was named the USL player of the week.

Dallas saw out the score line of 4-1, and await who they will face in the next round of the USOC. Dallas head to Colorado Friday to face the Rapids to finish up their road-trip. Oklahoma City head to California to face Sacramento Republic FC.
