Texas Spurs Beat The Houston Titans, 4-1

After a tough 0-2 loss on Friday against the Houston Aces, the Texas Spurs had something to prove going into their Sunday match against the Houston Titans. In the first half, the Spurs held possession of the ball, but could not find the back of the net early. In the 30th minute Hope Adams was taken down after making a run right outside the box and a foul was called for the Spurs. Kelsey Sheldon took the free kick, and slotted it back post for the first goal of the game.
 
At the end of the first half, the Spurs were up 1-0. When the Spurs took the pitch for the second half, the first play of the game set the tone for the rest of the game. Jaimie Pierce won the ball off the Titans kicks off, passed it off to Amanda McMullan who played Jaimie back on the run. Pierce hit the cross bar, with a beautiful left footed shot. The Spurs kept the ball on their half of the field for most of the second half.    
 
In the 50th minute McMullan back heeled the ball to Pierce who was making a run down the line, Pierce got a quick cross off and Kendal Pryor made a back post run to finish the cross for the Spurs first goal of the game. As the girls held their 2-0 lead, they continued to pressure and get into the attack. Hope Adams again made a run through the middle, and as she was tackled released the ball wide to McMullan. McMullan had a first time shot across the goal placing the ball into the side netting in the 64th minute. As the games physicality increased, the Spurs kept their composure and continued to pressure. Kelsey Sheldon again found the back of the net with a half volley off a cross from Mikayla Uyokpevi in the 74th minute. The Spurs let down in the last minute of the game, and the Titans scored a header off a corner. The final score was 4-1. The Texas Spurs will be traveling to take on Salt Lake City at UTE on Friday June 19th at 7PM. They will then be traveling down to Houston for their second game against the Houston Aces on June 21st at 6PM at the Carl Lewis Stadium.
