San Antonio came out of Atlanta with exactly what they went there to accomplish – a 1-0 victory and 3 points. The victory catapulted the Scorpions from 9th in the table to 6th for the NASL Spring Season, which could be crucial to the final playoff standings.
Most of the beginning minutes of the half were spent trying to figure each other out. That was until the 26th minute when former FC Dallas winger Marvin Chavez intercepted a Silverbacks pass and volleyed soccer’s version of a Hail Mary down the left side to Billy Forbes. Forbes was able to get Silverbacks goalkeeper Steward Ceus to commit, allowing Forbes to then cross the ball to the far post for Omar Cummings to net his league leading 6th goal of the season.
The Silverbacks were unable to capitalize on the few opportunities that presented themselves the rest of the game. This was due in large part to keeper Daryl Sattler. The Scorpions’ netminder was able to make three stops in the second half that ensured the Scorpions went home with the 3 points they so desperately needed.
With a win this coming Saturday, the Scorpions should be able to hold firm on their 6th place position, although a draw or loss could see them fall back several spots. San Antonio will close out the 2015 Spring Season at home next Saturday versus the Ottawa Fury.
