After a strong first half, FC Dallas came away from their road clash with the Colorado Rapids with a 1-1 draw despite a red card to Blas Perez and a concerning injury to Matt Hedges.
The game saw the Rapids come out strong, pushing the tempo for the first part of the first half. But near the 25th minute, Dallas started to assert themselves. Then, in the 31st, a brilliant run by Fabian Castillo broke down the left side of the Rapids defense and the young Colombian was able to fire the ball through the Colorado goal box, eventually finding Mauro Diaz on the far side of goal and the Argentine made no mistake, scoring the goal with a simple, professional strike.
The Rapids were the aggressors to start the second half as well, but were once again not able to finish their chances. The game changed in the 59th minute, though, as FC Dallas was again plagued by a costly error resulting in a red card ejection to Blas Perez. The Panamanian was adjudged to have struck Dallas native Drew Moor when the visitors had an offensive chance in the Colorado defensive third. Things got worse for Dallas in the 63rd as Matt Hedges was struck in the head and was forced to leave the game.
Colorado tie the match in the 79th minute through Nick LaBrocca who scored a brave goal by staying focused and finishing a chance at the top of the goal box with Dan Kennedy bearing down on him. Plano native Dillon Powers once again was involved in punishing Dallas as he was the initial recipient of the ball into the area from Lucas Pittinari. The Andromeda and Plano Senior High product headed the ball back across the goal for LaBrocca to put home to tie the match.
Dallas was able to survive the remaining 11 minutes of regulation and five minutes of stoppage time, though, to preserve the point.
