On Thursday, April 9, FC Dallas captain Matt Hedges was struck in the head by a ball rebounding off the woodwork during set piece drills. That injury caused him to miss the debacle against the Colorado Rapids the next day.
Tonight, in the away leg of the series, Hedges once again had to miss time from playing, this time because of a blow to the head he received in the 63rd minute defending another set piece. The UNC product did not return to the game, subbed for by Walker Zimmerman.
As thin as this team is on the back line, and as important as Hedges is to this team’s chemistry and mentality, this is a big concern that we will stay on top of.
At the time of Hedge’s exit from the match, the team was down a man thanks to a red card to Blas Perez, but up 1-0 after Mauro Diaz’s finish of a brilliant Fabian Castillo run in the 31st. Dallas would go on to give up the tying goal to Nick LaBrocca in the 79th, and the match would end at 1-1. For the full match report, go HERE.
