In the final game of day one at the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, the fans were treated to a great matchup in the Gordon Jago Super Group as they saw River Plate defeat Everton 3-1. The game was the marquee match of the day as Everton was the defending U-19 Barclays Premier League champion while River Plate was the defending Dallas Cup champion. The game started out with both teams trying to feel each other out until the thirty-eighth minute when River Plate got on the board first with a Tomas Andrade bottom corner shot that helped Andrade earn game MVP.
In the second half Everton worked to get back in the game and it did not take them long as Kieran Dowell of Everton tied it up with a rocket into the top corner. The game would not stay tied long however as River Plate answered quickly with a header from Emmanuel Venros which gave River Plate a lead that they would not lose again. Fedrico Lavalen added an insurance goal in the ninetieth minute with a goal that some pros could not make.
All and all, both teams have to be considered dangerous and possibly the two best teams in their group and could possibly meet later on down the road in this tournament. It will be interesting to see if their paths cross again and if they do, it will likely be a game that is just as good as the one tonight from the Cotton Bowl and a game that any soccer fan in the Dallas-Fort Worth area should attend.
