FRISCO, Texas – FC Dallas brought an eight match win-less streak to an end against the Colorado Rapids with a brilliant solo goal by Fabian Castillo in-front of the Texas crowd. Both teams came out in a 4-4-2 formation, but FC Dallas had Tesho Akindele playing in a left-mid position as opposed to his normal striker position.
The Rapids jumped out in front with a creative chance in the 25’ minute when Deshorn Brown chipped a shot at a tough angle. A cross came in and was headed down into Brown’s path It floated just under the bar and into the corner of the net over Raul Fernandez. FC Dallas got on the board in the 33’ minute when Jair Benitez’ free-kick was deflected past Clint Irwin to make it 1-1, and Zach Loyd got on the scoresheet a minute into stoppage time off a counter-attack. Fabian Castillo took the ball in but was stopped, the ball fell to Loyd who hit a low driven shot that deflected, Irwin got a hand on, but it squirted past him to make it 2-1.
Colorado leveled the score with a corner goal in the 52’ minute to make it 2-2 when a header by Jose Mari beat Raul Fernandez and hit Jair Benitez on the line to deflect in. FC Dallas pushed for the winner. A few missed chances and a Blas Perez flying header hitting the bar later, Fabian Castillo found the winner in the 62’ minute with a spark of brilliance.
