Seattle Sounders FC pulled the rabbit out of the hat with some late magic to steal three points at home against FC Dallas. FC Dallas lined up in a 4-1-2-1-2 with David Teixeira and Blas Perez up-top, and Seattle countered with a 4-4-2 with Obafemi Martins and USMNT member Clint Dempsey up-top.
FC Dallas opened the scoring in the 16’ minute after Brad Evans tripped Blas Perez in the box as Perez was pursuing a long-ball forward. Penalty specialist Michel stepped up to take, and the brazilian converted to make it 1-0 early. Seattle’s biggest chance of the first half came in the 24’ minute when a curling Clint Dempsey free-kick from about 3 yards outside of the box was knocked away by a diving Raul Fernandez.
Seattle got their equalizer in the 62’ minute after good build-up and a cross from the right side that Lamar Neagle poked home. Martins took the lead league for assists with the assist. Seattle kept the pressure on the entire second half including a shot from Osvaldo Alonso that hit the post and bounced into Clint Dempsey’s path for what looked to be an easy finish, Dempsey’s shot was saved from point-blank range by a sprawling Raul Fernandez. The winner came in the 88’ minute when Obafemi Martins found some space to run down the left side, the low cross came in across the turf, that former FC Dallas’ man Kenny Cooper, put in easily. Cooper scored just two minutes after being on the turf.
Dallas pushed for the late equalizer, but it was never found. Martins was named Man of The Match for his two assists and all-around terror he caused the Dallas backline. Raul Fernandez was the stand-out man for FCD as he kept the game there for his team to win to the best of his ability and made two outstanding saves. FC Dallas has now lost three straight, whereas Seattle has now won five in a row. Dallas returns to action against San Jose, and Seattle returns in Gillette Stadium against New England.
